Work + Life by Design
Nicolene Mausenbaum
How much time is your workspace costing you?
You know the working day feels harder than it should. Getting started takes effort. Staying with the important task is harder than you'd like. Calls need a quick tidy before anyone sees the room. Work still seems to be there after you've finished.
This check looks for the places where your workspace may be adding friction to focused work, workflow, professional presence or the boundary between work and life.
- A clear result, named plainly
- What it looks like in an ordinary working day
- A few things worth checking in your own room

A note from Nicolene
This check comes from watching capable people work from rooms that quietly undercut them.
Seven questions can tell you where the friction probably sits. They can't tell you which wall your desk should face, or which of these to fix first, because that depends on the room you're standing in.
So treat this as a starting point rather than a verdict. Try the smallest thing on your list. If the room keeps arguing with you after that, the problem is usually the arrangement, and arrangement is what I do.
